Pro Choice

August 23rd, 2008 by JR Griggs

I was driving home today and started thinking about the abortion issue in this country. I believe that life begins at conception and abortion should without a doubt be illegal. I am not so sure I even agree with the rape exception but I understand it. I would also agree to exceptions if the mother’s life was in danger.

But what I really started thinking about was the term “Pro Choice”. The common idea is that someone like me is Pro Life not Pro Choice. Then I realized that I am both. I am Pro Life in that I believe that baby has rights at conception and to abort it, ending its life should be illegal. But I am not against choice. You see that mother had a choice she made. She chose to have sex and new the risk. In most cases she chose to have sex outside of marriage and not in a position to raise a child. She did have a choice and with every choice in life there is a consequence (good or bad). I can’t think of any other instance in life where I can make a choice and instead of facing my consequence just erase it. Erase it at the expense of a life!

Imagine if I could make the choice to steal something and then when I get caught, kill the person I stole from. That should make it all OK now right? Or what if I realise later that it was a mistake? Why can’t I wait until I am tired of changing diapers to decide that I want to kill my child? Choices, Choices!
