I get many opportunities to debate political issues with people on a regular basis. I don’t mind, in fact I think it is necessary. What does bother me though is how many people I speak with who are extremely uneducated in the facts. These are the type of people who usually have no idea why they believe what they do. They just somehow formed an opinion and stuck with it. To me if you are debating politics but do not know the simple facts, you are either stupid or lazy. Sadly these two characteristics that are a growing trend, may possible destroy this great country.

Simple Facts

OK, so to give some examples and show that I am not talking about in depth facts here. I will give you an example from this week. I was talking with someone in a crowd who was saying how great Obama is and how all the problems are Bush’s fault. Within minutes I mentioned that Bush made many mistakes, but the mistakes he made were when he appeased the liberals in the Senate and Congress. I mentioned how he just let them spend whatever they wanted and vetoed nothing.

This is when this man said to me in front of everyone. That I was wrong and that what Bush did was veto everything. He said that he vetoed more than any President in history. I know, I know, if you are an educated reader you are just as surprised as I am. Bush set a record for the longest time without a veto. In fact his first veto did not come until 2006! 5 years into his Presidency! He finished with 12 total. You have to go all the way back to Warren Harding to find someone with less.

But this guy is having a major discussion on what the problems with this country are. 30 seconds on Google and you could have figured out how many vetoes Bush had. I am amazed at how many times I hear things like this. You must know the facts to make a proper decision. Sadly we are just too stupid or lazy to do the research.

I love hearing the “Bush banned stem cell research” argument. Again 30 seconds on the internet and you find that is not true. He banned the federal funding of embryonic stem cell research. But the practice was still legal.

A Spoiled Generation

We are just so spoiled. Never in history have we had so much information at our finger tips but we can’t take 2 minutes to look it up. We would rather listen to the main stream media and the blogs and not at least do ourselves the favor of verifying the facts. That’s right “do ourselves the favor.”

It is your life on the line here. Politics is not just some hobby or something only certain people should care about. Everything you are and will be is determined by politics. Your salary, your healthcare, how you raise your kids, all are affected by the government and politics. It is vital that we all are engaged and educated. Take the time to look up what you are told look up your politicians see who they really are.

Destruction of a Nation

So how can this behavior destroy this nation? Because we have uneducated people who are out there voting and putting people into power without knowing what they are doing. We live in a Republic which is comprised by a bunch of small Democracies. Which basically means that if you can get 51% of this nation to be uneducated and lazy, you will have some really bad political decisions made.

This will ultimately be the demise of this country. We are pumping out more and more illiterate students from high schools every year. Those who seek to destroy this country are counting on them to vote.

We have a President who is lying regularly at this point and we are just too stupid or too lazy to find that out. I cannot list them all here it would take too long. But let’s look at the biggest issue now. HealthCare. Those who do not want it, keep mentioning how a single payer system is a failure everywhere else. Obama keeps saying it is not a single payer system. Recently he said at a town hall that he has never been a proponent of a single payer system. really?

Why is it  that we have video of him saying that he is a proponent of a single payer system and that he will institute it once he is in the Whitehouse?

Here are some videos, that’s right videos. We live in an amazing time of information. You would think with all the social media outlets and how easy it is to get video of people that it would be harder to lie or deceive. But again if you have more stupid people than smart people it can be done!
