About JR Griggs
Hi, thanks for your interest in JR Griggs. I currently live in Tampa, Florida with my wife and 2 kids. My full name is Raymond Robert Griggs Jr.. My parents always called me JR Growing up, this was short for Junior and is the name I have always gone by. I have many interests and love to study and teach. Every time I learn something interesting, I love to dig in deeper and teach others what I learn.
From childhood I have always aspired to run my own company. At a very young age I would draw pictures and sell them in the neighborhood. Sell tangerines from the tangerine tree in the back yard. I even attempted to start a newspaper for my community. I was always looking for the next idea to generate some income even if it was only enough to get me a pack of baseball cards. Writing was another one of my aspirations. Growing up I would attempt to write novels but never was able to complete one. I took journalism in High School to assist in my venture to write some day. I did manage to get an article published in the school paper. It is one of my goals to write and publish a book someday.
In 1996 I met my future wife at church. This amazing girl’s faith and love for God intrigued me so much that I eventually embraced the God I once believed did not exist. A beautiful caring girl who just wanted to see me change my life was exactly what I needed. I had grown up being very skeptical about things and always wanted to make sure that I completely understood something before I believe it. My fascination with truth lead me to study the Bible not just as something you read and believe. I was determined to make sure that what I was reading was real and could be proven. Seeing the facts and finally having my eyes opened to the Word of God, I gave my life to Christ and have been changing ever since.
My life before this was a life of alcohol and sex, not much else mattered. Only weeks before making my decision to follow Christ, I was staring down the barrel of a shotgun. A party I had gone to had gotten out of hand and now someone who had consumed way too much alcohol was pointing a shotgun at my face. I left this encounter with some serious decisions to make about my life. In the end, a desire to truly understand life and the facts about my existence, lead me to make the decision that saved my life. I abandoned all the friends and events in my life that were dragging me down and decided to follow Christ and allow Him to change my life. I was now leaving a path of destruction and on a path of life! Oh, and I got the girl too!
I married that beautiful girl in 1999 and went off to Bible College in 2000. After college I continued to study and research God’s Word and teach to others. I have served as a Youth Group leader at Calvary Chapel Sawgrass in Davie, FL and most recently the Children’s Ministry Director at Calvary Chapel South Tampa. I also served as assistant to the Senior Pastor in teaching in his absence. Currently I am taking a break from ministry to do some continued studying and work on some things that have been put on the back burner such as this blog.
Over time I have worked in many areas from construction to car sales. I have gained a lot of knowledge that I love to share with people and use my blog to do so. I got involved in studying politics after college and enjoy being actively involved in what is happening in government today. My hope is that I can continue to study the things I love and be able to share that knowledge with others. I hope that with my love of study, teaching and writing that I can offer some valuable insight and help with this site.
